This number of clients falls far short of the projected 40 clients the program was supposed to help.
To the question, "Guess who's coming to dinner?" and the concomitant issue that was to be studied, is there a need for a summer shelter, I think the answers are that not enough homeless are availing themselves of this program to continue it in the future.
I will make some other counts to get a fair sample of the number of men being assisted. It is positive that a few people are being helped on some nights, but considering the time and effort that went into forcing this program on the neighborhood in contradiction to town codes that do not permit shelters in R1 zones, the outcome is not sufficient to justify the means, much less the time and expense.
Perhaps the volunteers would say otherwise. That is their right, but they need to look for another location next summer.
